Menu System of UC-5695

The DDSv4 unit was reprogrammed with a code that fits the needs of the converter.
The LCD display consists of two lines. The bottom line is split into two parts, the left one and the right one. These parts serve as variable captions for the two controlling buttons. The buttons (the left button and the right button) are placed under the LCD display on the front panel.
Controlling of the converter was split into two menus. The Main Menu that is used very often by the operator and the System Menu which sets the project specific values (such as IF frequency).

Main Menu

This is the screen that shows up when the converter is powered on.
First line shows the memory channel number (keep left button depressed and rotate the tuning button to change it), icon of the filter in use, current tuning speed and frequency in kHz (number of decimal places depends on the selected tuning step).
Hit the left button momentarily to toggle the tuning speed (normal / fast).
Hit the right button to enter the menu system.
Rotate the tuning knob to select the action: DO NOTHING, SAVE CURR FREQ, SAVE ALL FREQ'S, SAVE ALL, RECALL CURR FREQ and LOCK FREQ DIAL.
Hit the left button to confirm and abandon, hit the right button to continue.
Rotate the tuning knob to select the filter: 125 Hz, 500 Hz, WIDE.
When the filter selection happens, the ports PortB.2 and PortB.3 are set accordingly on the DDSv4, the main unit reads these lines and switches the crystal filters.
Hit the left button to confirm and abandon, hit the right button to continue.
Rotate the tuning knob to select the normal tuning step (change on one pulse of the rotary encoder), in Hz: 1, 2, 5, 10, ... 10000.
Hit the left button to confirm and abandon, hit the right button to continue.
Rotate the tuning knob to select the multiplier of the tuning step when the fast tuning is in use: x2, x5, x10, x20, ... x10000.
Hit the right button to finish.

System Menu
To enter the system menu keep both left and right button depressed simultaneously and power the converter on.
Once the hardware of the converter is finished this menu will be entered very rarely, if ever.

Rotate the tuning knob to toggle NO, YES.
If YES is selected the DDSv4 returns to hard-coded default values and discards values stored in the EEPROM.
Hit the right button to continue (unlike with the Main Menu, the System Menu can't be abandoned in the middle).
Rotate the tuning knob to set the intermediate frequency, in Hz.
Keep the left button depressed for faster navigation.
Hit the right button to continue.
Rotate the tuning knob to toggle LOW, HIGH.
Usually HIGH is used but UC-5695 uses LOW in order the converter doesn't swap side bands. This way RTTY and similar modes look correct at the output of the converter.
Hit the right button to continue.
Rotate the tuning knob to set number of the usable memory channels. Number 1 through 9 can be selected.
Hit the right button to continue.
Hit the right button to finish. The values set in the System Menu will be stored into the EEPROM memory of the DDSv4 unit and will be restored automatically next time the unit is powered on.

Download the code for the DDSv4 (right click the link and select Save As...)
It can be burned into the
DDSv4 unit with the software AVR Studio 4, free on Atmel WEB, and the relevant programmer hardware.
